Climate: Tropical and dry. In the period from July to August low precipitation.
Terrain: The roads were often paved and fairly. The paths were clear. The last part of the ascent of Rinjani was a disaster.
Day to day: Short bus rides and day trips with overnight stay in hotels in Flores. We camped on Komodo and during the climb Rinjani. Our luggage was carried by carriers.
Local people: We visited areas on Flores were hardly visited by tourists. In each village we were greeted jubilantly.
Tourists: Flores was in the early nineties a white spot on the tourist map. Lombok and Bali where much more crowded.
Remarks: The friendly people of Flores. Regularly we were invited into the home of the village chief, while the whole village was gazing at us through the open windows.
